About Sairandhri :
Silent Valley National Park (Core zone: 89.52 square kilometers (35 sq mi))
is located in the Nilgiri Hills, Palakkad district, Kerala, in South India.
The park is one of the last undisturbed tracts of South Western Ghats
montane rain forests and tropical moist evergreen forest in India. The area
is locally known as "Sairandhrivanam" literally, in Malayalam: Sairandhri
Valley. In local Hindu legend, Sairandhri is Draupadi, the polyandrous wife
of the five Pandavas. he British named the area Silent Valley because of a
perceived absence of noisy Cicadas.
The river Kunthi at Silent Valley descends from the Nilgiri hills, an
altitude of 2000 m above sea level, and traverses the entire length of the
valley and rushes down to the plains through the deep forest. The river
Kunthi never turns brown and is always crystal clear, perennial and wild.
